YoTyan Game Rules

Object of the Game

To outscore your opponent by landing, or “potting”, your balls into the 7 slots, or “pots”, on the 3 starfish on the playing surface.

Rules

1) A round consists of the first half and the second half so both player plays on each sides and with each set of balls.

2) The red balls are always on the player’s right side and always start the game.

3) Each player starts with 12 balls.

4) Each player plays one ball per turn UNLESS they earn another ball. How to earn another ball during a turn is explained in SCORING.

5) There is no time limit on a game. No game clock. Players play until:

  • all of the pots, or slots, are filled. (21 slots, 24 balls)
  • one player runs out of balls. When this happens, the other player is allowed to play each ball remaining in their rack one time only, but can not retrieve any more balls from the collection box.

6) When a player runs out of balls they ring the bell at the center of the table.

Scoring

A player scores by landing, or potting, a ball in a slot, or pot.

Each pot, or slot, on the:

  • top starfish is worth 3 points.
  • middle starfish is worth 2 points.
  • bottom starfish is worth 1 point.

If a player fails to pot a ball they score no points and their turn is over.

Bonus Points

A player is awarded bonus points and/or another ball in a turn if their ball:

1) is the BREAKER BALL (regular points/another ball)

2) pots next to another ball (double points/another ball)

3) pots into a Sole Bonus Slot (triple points/another ball)

4) pots but is not the BREAKER BALL and isn’t beside another ball (regular points/loss of turn)

5) becomes a BRIDGE BALL (no points/another ball)

6) knocks their own BRIDGE BALL into a pot

  • isn’t beside another ball (normal points/loss of turn)
  • beside another ball (double points/another ball)
  • Sole Bonus Slot (triple points/another ball)

7) knocks their opponent’s BRIDGE BALL into a pot (opponent gets due points/player gets no points but does get another ball)

8) frees up their own BRIDGE BALL and both balls return to players (no points/another ball)

9) frees up their opponent’s ball and both balls return to players (no points/loss of turn)

A. 5 Kinds of Situation for One More Turn to Make a Shot

1. The break-shot ball (the first ball) lands in a slot on any star plate, getting one more turn to make a shot.

2. Making a touching ball closing with the other ball in the adjacent slot, gets one more turn to make a shot.

3. The two red balls in the below picture is a kind of status called ear bridges, making the bridge balls gets one more shot right.

4. Releasing own bridge balls, getting one more turn for making a shot.

5. Pushing the opponent’s bridge ball into the slot, getting one more turn to make a shot.

B. Scoring Rule

The numbers marked on the three star plates indicate the base points for balls landing on each corresponding plate. A ball landing on No.1 Star Plate scores 1 base point, while No.2 Star Plate and No.3 Star Plate follow the same sequential rule for their respective base points.

Base points are straightforward to understand, yet the scoring rules for touching balls confuse most viewers.

1) Points awarded for placing a ball in a position that is not the sole slot are doubled (illustrated below: Star Plate No.2, 2*2 = 4 points).

2) Positioning at the Sole Bonus Slot, it is tripled (as shown in the diagram: Star Plate No.2, 2*3 = 6 points).
